Introduction of our group

The name of our group is called “Passing Out”. There are five members in our group : Ng Ka Chun,Yu Wai,Ngai Pok Keung,Chan Ye Ko and Pang Man Chung. All of us are studying human resources management. And "passing out" implies the uniformed group of students who have finished their training in a training school, equipped them with professional knowledge. With the professional knowledge, they can perform their tasks well in the future and make contribution to the society. Therefore, we hope we can learn something new, practical and be able to apply that knowledge in the real world after this course. Most importantly, we hope we can change ourselves from student to professional. "Passing out" can also be explained separately. "Passing" simply means we are able to pass this course. “Out” can be expressed in the way of outstanding. We hope we do not only pass this course but also be an outstanding one.

Introduce the blog we find
This is the funny blog we found (http://visualthinkmap.blogspot.com/), which is created by “Visual think map” who named the blog after themselves, introducing a wild range of ideas by using some pictures, diagrams. The viewers of this blog are of different demographics. In other words, the viewers of this blog can be anyone who is interested in visual. Therefore, the author creates this blog for sharing some concepts, ideas with the help visual elements. They try to use a creative way to present the new ideas and help to remember things. It is a leading method of memorizing things which is extremely creative and innovative.

Successes, Failure and suggestions in promoting creativity and innovation
In our opinion, the blog is quite successful in promoting creativity and innovation. It is not common to find some ideas or concepts which can be fully presented by applying some visual elements. Even we find that many books or notes provide some diagrams to help us understand their ideas, they are just auxiliary. it is the first time when people use pictures along to present certain ideas. The method and graphic shown in the blog can really help you understand ideas and relationships between different subjects, in order to remember and memorize them.

On the other hand, the blog we chose involves a huge range of topics, ranging from academic to entertainment, science to art. The whole blog is presented by diagram for multiple purposes. You would learn business frameworks, structure of brain, mathematical formulas and so forth. Also you would find something interesting like the change of logos of Pepsi and Coca cola, models of cars, etc. Usually, a blog is just for one purpose, but this one would fulfill viewers’ different needs. That is a reason why we chose this blog. We will not feel bored when we visit this blog.

To our understanding not all of the ideas can be clearly presented by pictures. Even Sometimes, it will become more complex if many pictures are used. Therefore, we suggest that the blog can provide some explanation with texts below the diagram. In this way, the viewers can have a better understanding of the ideas and concepts.

Moreover, some of the pictures and relationship diagrams are really so complicated that it sometimes really confuses viewers. So, it would be better if those diagrams and pictures are more focused on a more specific area within a discipline.

Revision / extension
Thank You! All of your kindly comments are very helpful. We will talk about the advantages that you mentioned.

First of all, many of you think that the visual presentation or mind map can help people memorize and understand ideas easier. Moreover, sometimes, some ideas are closely related and their relationships are complex. Instead if using boring texts only, using visual mind map can help differentiate them, then you will not mix them up again.

Apart from helping better memorize and understand ideas, another advantage of using mind map is that pictures are more interesting than solely use of boring texts. It is more attractive by reading some curious, fresh context picture than the dull texts. As a result, you should have a higher efficiency of learning, especially during your revisions before examinations.

However, you guys have suggested some obstacles in promoting creativity of our blog.

Sometimes, because you don’t have the specific knowledge in some aspects, or the relationships between entities are over complicated, so you don’t understand what the mind map is talking about as only pictures are shown to explain the ideas without any texts. So, it is suggested that the authors or creators should explain more, especially for some new or difficult aspects. But, in our opinion, for some aspects, say, about some medical problems or technology, if you are not experts of those aspects, will you really look at those materials? So, we think you would know what is going on in the pictures.

Moreover, you may doubt about that some pictures may not be able to be unified as each individual would have their own images and pictures of the same objects. So, it may make readers confused and it may not be proper to use visual map to present new ideas. However, we agree with 2411.Frontier that it would give some rooms for readers to imagine by themselves. As you know, you can still do further researches after read the visual mind map. So, we think it is not a big problem.

3430 Ocean thought it would be better to use some software that makes the mind map in your computer instead of drawing physically. It is a very helpful suggestion. And we agree that it would be more flexible and convenient. You can draw in your computer, and then, you can read it by your computer, or you can also print it out as handouts. The link that 3430 Ocean provided is that http://www.edrawsoft.com/freemind.php .

In conclusion, visual mind map would have its own advantages but also drawbacks. But, what we want to focus more on is that our group is not concerned about what aspects the blog shows. More importantly, we would like to suggest you to use visual mind map as a new presentation way that you can use in a formal presentation, or just make it for your exam revisions. Finally, again, thank you for all your helpful comments.
